The outermost gatherings (first of six folios, last of eight) are each constructed with an extra sheet added, acting as flyleaf and conjoint pastedown, with the fold wrapped around the gathering and strengthened in both cases by a thin strip of parchment. That at the front is blank but that at the back is included for its illumination.
