Ivo's letters open with simple red initials; no decoration for Alcuin
This fragment has been removed from the binding at the point in the early twentieth century that it was replaced. It is now in a thin card guardbook stating it was 'Part of Original Binding'. It would seem that it was turned on its side and used possibly as a pastedown (the front would have been the opening pasted) inside some sort of board. There is, however, no evidence for the production of bindings of leather over boards on the island.
